Film Review : Sword Art Online The Movie - Ordinal Scale (2017)

Synopsis :

Experience an all new adventure with Kirito, Asuna, and their party members as they explore the world of "Ordinal Scale," a new hit game utilizing augmented reality technology. Players are about to find the line between the virtual world and reality beginning to blur and their worst nightmares coming true... As his fellow players find themselves in danger, the hero is called upon once again - can Kirito save his friends, or is this going to be game over for him...?

Review :

I like this movie because I used to be MMORPG Korea game player like Ragnarok. It's really fun and addictive. So, I kind of understand the movie theme which is about Augmented Reality MMORPG. This movie has original story aka independent from the mega hit novel and TV series story. It is kind of "sequel" from the novel and anime version. Fortunately, it was explained in the beginning what's happen in the novel and TV series. So, even if we never know about Sword Art Online before, it doesn't diminished our understanding or pleasure watching this movie.

The story itself is quite good. It was quite mysterious and poke our curiosity. Unfortunately the characters and the graphics are quite standard for anime. The music was orchestrated/composed by famous Yuki Kajiura. Unfortunately even though it was quite good, nothing was memorable enough for me. The opening is quite strong but the ending despite its goodness lack strong impact. Overall, I can say that this is great anime movie and deserved our support.

Rating : 8.5 of 10 stars
